This is how the two month car building experience went. Austin & Dad spent several days drawing up different car designs, (I even threw in my car design, but they said it was to original and boring.) Then they narrowed it down the the ultimate (unique) car design. Then they took their block of pine to Uncle Jesse so he could carve it out using his cool tools. (He has every possible tool that you would need for the big job.) Then it was time to choose the cars colors. This is something that I helped Austin do. I think Jeremy was a little disappointed with the colors he chose (at first) but once they were applied, they look quite striking. I was quite impressed with Austin's color choices.
For the last month of the project, it was polishing axles, applying decals, sanding wheels, and adding just the right amount of weight (oh, I forgot the weighing of the car on my food scale.) I swear, everyday they were doing something to the car. But it all paid off. Here is the final result:
Quite striking and unique, if I do say so myself.
Next, I'll go through the night of the big competition. I'm just going to use pictures, because they pretty much say it all. Here we go.
It was fierce!! Check out the fantastic cars.
The anticipation!!
Crossing the finish line
They did about 8 races with 4 races in each heat.
3rd Place (show some enthusiasm, Austin)
Great Job Austin!!
After the races were over, they kids enjoyed Chocolate Milk and Mini Chocolate Donuts. (It was suppose to be oil and tires-cute huh??) It was such a fun night. And I am so proud of Austin (and Jeremy) for their hard work. And I'm glad it's over, so I can get all of the tools out of my kitchen.
