Exploring Nevada

We went camping this weekend in Lincoln County. I had never been there, and I found out that there are some pretty cool things in Nevada. We started out fishing and camping at Eagle Valley Reservoir. There were actually tree's and mountain's. It really reminded me of Utah. The Heiselbetz family met us there and the kids had fun fishing with their friends. After a few hours of fishing we headed back to camp where we ate tin foil dinners. I haven't eaten a tin foil dinner in years, and they were very tasty. After smores, and stories around the campfire, we were off to bed. The next morning we tore down camp and headed to Pioche. Pioche is a very interesting place. It is an old mining town where they discovered silver. It was neat to see the old mining buildings and equipment. We also visited a cemetery named Boot Hill Cemetery. 72 men were killed and buried with their boots on before anyone in Pioche died of natural causes. I just imagine a very greedy and violent place. People must have been very desperate to make a fortune. It was very interesting reading the grave markers. Some of them told why the men died. One said he was "shot during dispute over a dog." Another said that he was "shot by a coward, and no one new his name." What a very interesting time and place these people must have lived in. After visiting Pioche, we went to Cathedral Gorge. It's kind of like a mini Bryce Canyon. We went hiking, and exploring the caves. Looking from a distance, you wouldn't think much of it, but you can walk thru the caves, where it was nice and cool inside. The kids really had fun there. I am glad that we took the time to explore a few places in our interesting state. I took a ton of pictures, so enjoy the slide show!!
